Language Exams:

The USDA Graduate School offers great language courses (including a Reading Knowledge in German course!) at a reasonable price. Many of the graduate students in our program have enrolled in these courses and have found them helpful. Visit their website here.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

If the libraries on campus or other affliated libraries do not have the book you are looking for, you can receive it through ILL. Follow these instructions:

1. Visit the University's library webpage: www.lib.umd.edu

2. On the left hand side under "More information for..." click on "Faculty and grad students"

3. On the right hand side under "Tool Box" click on "Place an ILL Request"

4. Choose University of Maryland College Park

5. Choose Students, Faculty and Staff

6. Enter your Directory ID and Password (what you use to check your university email with)

7. Make your request.

8. Be patient. It has been known to take between a few days to a few weeks.

Off-Campus access to JStor, ArtStor, etc.:

1. Visit the University's library webpage: www.lib.umd.edu

2. Click on "Research Port"

3. Choose University of Maryland College Park

4. Choose Students, Faculty and Staff

5. Enter your Directory ID and Password (what you use to check your university email with)

6. You're in!

Lockers:

There are lockers in front of the Art Library in Art/Soc that are available for graduate students who wish to reserve them. Please see the Graduate Secretary, Deborah Down, for more information.

Reserving the seminar room:

There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the hallway of the 4th floor. Please block out a time to reserve the seminar room AND notify the Graduate Secretary, Deborah Down, to avoid conflicts.

Digital Dissertations:

You can search for completed theses and dissertations in the US using Digital Dissertations. To access this, you must go through Research Port on the University's library webpage. Type in "Digital Dissertations" in the search bar. To access this page off-campus, see "Off-Campus Access to JStor, ArtStor, etc." above.
